Statement of Purpose: A place for reflection and contemplation built of the remains of the war. A.) half of a Chinook helicopter, B.) remnants of Humvees and C.) a pile of small arms. Each of these is set in a marsh, meant to symbolise the marshes of Iraq. The marshes detroyed by Saddam Hussein and now being restored. All of these marshes drain into a larger pool. At one end of the pool are D.) scores of guns with helmuts atop them, a reference to the ceremonies that soldiers had for their fallen comrades. In time, the various armaments will corrode and disintergrate. The guns and helmuts in the pool will be sculpted of sturdier material so that as the armamments disappear, the symbols of sacrifice remain. |
