Statement of Purpose: This war is awful. It is poorly planned, poorly executed, and ugly. My memorial will be the same. It will be dreadful, as dreadful as a life without a loved one. My idea is that the Ellipse is paved with asphalt. The names of all those Americans who died in Iraq will be painted on this surface. In time, the pavement will heave and crack. Grass will grow up through the cracks. One generic road sign will mark the site. It will be unpleasant in the summer as the asphalt will radiate the heat back up. In the winter, it'll just be a windswept plain. Rest assured that the company who paves the Ellipse will be rewarded as handsomely as Haliburton was in Iraq. (Hell, the job will probably go to a subsidiary of Halliburton) |
